Just like our children have organized play dates so do my pets. Shiloh has her BFF next door. She is a blank Golden Doodle named Lexi. Lexi and Shiloh sit at the gates and look for each other each morning and through the day. Lexi's Mom calls and schedules time for the girls to play together. Lexi and Shiloh are 2 different sizes but you wouldn't like it. They run and play all day. Shiloh runs and jumps on Lexi and pulls her long ears while Lexi runs and scoots Shiloh on the backside to make her fall. There is romping all day long until they get tired. They take a break and wonder around the yard until they regain their energy and then off they go again.
Shiloh has also been playing for her Beagle buddy named Flash from across the street. Flash is around the same age as Shiloh. He doesn't have a lot of human interaction so we are working with him. Flash's parents work during the day and his small humans don't get to play with him in the evening. He spends hours in his yard with no friends. We have began getting him in the afternoon so we can begin teaching him how not to jump on humans and to sit and come. They like to run and play during the day as well. He is happy to have some friends around to play with. He hasn't gotten used to playing with Lexi so for now its just Shiloh and Flash. Shiloh is Miss Populating with her play dates. The people in the neighborhood think she is special to be able to be as social as she is.

You know what its like to have more than one child in the house but having 5 is a real challenge some days. Shiloh wants to go in and out all day long. If you don't come when she wants in or out she scratches the door until you come. We taught her how to ring the bells when she was little and this is just the next step for her. Then we have Jacquelyn the Jack Russell. She barks to be let back in. If you don't come when she wants, she sits at the door and barks in short intervals until it gets on your nerves and let her in.
Mealtime is a hoot at our house. At 5:00 on the dot, Jacquelyn begins to worry you until I get up from my desk. I try to give them treats while I am finishing up work until they worry me and won't give up. As I descend from my home office with the dogs in tow, the 3 cats greet me at the bottom of the steps. They are meowing and talking while they walk around their bowls. We have a old table their bowls sit up on so the dogs won't eat their food. The girls stand at their bowls talking until I dish out their food. The boy on the other hand, like all boys bangs on his bowl to create as much noise as possible. While I am making heating up water for the dogs food, I swing by the cat bowls and deliver their food and then back into the kitchen to finish up the dog's food. It is like being a short order food at the local diner. Once everyone is feed, then it is on to letting the dogs out to roam around in the year until they are ready to come back in. During that time, I am making food for the human members of the family. I won't trade them for anything but some days Mom just needs a break. |
